Position: Project Lead
Anja Palandačić is Deputy Curator and Collection Manager of the Fish Collection at NHM Vienna. Her scientific achievements include mainly population genetic, phylogenetic and biodiversity research on small whitefishes of the Balkan Peninsula, while the breakthrough in her career was the systematic study of European minnows, which brought an enormous increase in knowledge about this fish group. In these studies, she has focused on genetic analysis of historical material.
Position: Senior Research Associate
Head of the 1st Zoological Department which among others includes Fish Collection. Throughout his career, he has been involved as an ecologist and in numerous conservation programs at the national level, working with various stakeholders including scientists, fishermen and policy makers.
Position: Research Associate
Studied biology with focus on zoology at the University of Vienna and wildlife ecology and wildlife management at BOKU. Since 2016 scientific project assistant at NHM Vienna in different projects with research focus on molecular biology, parasitology and evolutionary biology. Currently PhD student in the FWF project “Dispersal of aquatic organisms in the karst area” with focus on the study of population structure of minnows in the Dinaric Karst.
Position: Research Technologist
She studied chemistry in Vienna and was already working in molecular biology during her master’s thesis. The interest in DNA analytics has grown and in the context of the work at the Natural History Museum Vienna also the enthusiasm for minnows.
Position: Research Technologist
She recently completed her master’s degree in zoology at the University of Vienna. As part of her master’s thesis, she studied several methods for analyzing DNA. She is now looking forward to using this knowledge in the Citizen Science Project.

Position: Research Associate
Studied biology/ecology at the University of Vienna and applied aquatic ecology at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna. After several years of work in Norway and Sweden, where Hans worked on fish migration and the passability of hydropower plants, he came back to Austria to do research at the University of Innsbruck, regarding the development and establishment of molecular detection methods (eDNA) for fish.
Position: Senior Research Associate
Manages an environmental office (TB Glaser) and a part-time farm in Tyrol. Research focus on ecology and conservation of ants, amphibians and reptiles in the Alpine region. Since childhood also intensive occupation with fish as aquarist, angler and biologist.
Position: Science Communication and public relations
Born in Vienna in 1972, he studied “Applied Hydrobiology and Hydrology” at BOKU Vienna. Since 2000 he has been working independently at the interface of creativity and ecology. He has been an enthusiastic angler since childhood and is well connected in the Austrian fishing scene.
